Ranked among the Top 75 Best Universities in the world, Western Sydney University has adopted Myshowcase.me as an initial ePortfolio pilot for Year 1 medical students to support life-long learning and boost student employability, confidence and satisfaction.

With a vision to secure success for students and the Greater Western Sydney region through innovation, Western Sydney University sought a student-centred digital portfolio that would support their entire institution including their nine schools and The College, which offers a range of pathways and alternative entry programs to university covering subjects from Business to Health Sciences.

With an ethos of supporting student-centred learning, MyKnowledgeMap, with their ePortfolio Myshowcase.me aligned closely to Western Sydney’s strategy and vision.  As one of the Australia’s largest universities with 45,000 students and 3,300 staff, it was vital for the chosen ePortfolio to be easy to use, flexible and dynamic, supporting and preparing students in a technology-enabled world. 

Myshowcase.me was chosen as it enables the university in recognising the student’s university, personal and professional experiences in shaping them to contribute as global citizens.  It’s life-long nature added to the appeal as students would be able to keep their ePortfolio upon graduating. 

Through Myshowcase.me, students can map rich evidence from multiple sources against learning outcomes and frameworks. Using this evidence students can then create customisable personalised showcases of their work, reflect on their progress and share their portfolio with faculty, employers and other key stakeholders for review, feedback and more.

Implementing the Myshowcase.me pilot will begin by supporting a brand-new Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme, which is to be introduced in the 2019 academic year. Throughout the 1^st year of the new 5-year MD programme, Myshowcase.me will be used by students to collate evidence and map these against key learning outcomes for review and assessment.  As part of this, the MD programme will also be using MyKnowledgeMap’s mobile workplace-based assessment tool, Myprogress to capture assessments whilst students are on practice.  Completed assessments taken in Myprogress will be automatically pushed into their Myshowcase.me account and mapped against learning outcomes.

Following the result of the pilot, WSU will roll out Myshowcase.me across the entire institution, allowing the quality of student learning across the university, schools and The College to be evaluated and monitored to improve student engagement, impact, outcomes and satisfaction.
